A volunteer fire chief's responsibilities include overall department leadership, strategic planning, fire prevention, community outreach and leading emergency responses. Along with other various tasks. The Wading River FD currently has a chief and 3 assistants to make sure rescue and fire calls run smoothly and within a timely matter. Chief's are voted in yearly by the department members.
