On a rainy Sunday, January 3, 2021, the Wading River Fire Department delivered all the food that had been collected from its Christmas Holiday “Stuff-A-Bus” food drive campaign.
Six local pantries are now filled to capacity, including St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Wading River Congregational Church, North Shore United Methodist Church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church and Living Waters Full Gospel Church.

First Assistant Chief Denise Gluck thanked the community for filling the bus, from top to bottom. “This year was difficult for many people, but the residents rose to the occasion and responded like never before. Many families will not go hungry now.” President Mike Hammer said, “You could see the cars driving up to the bus every hour for the past few weeks - it was just an amazing show of generosity.” Chairman of the Food Drive, Captain Tom Whelan also thanked those who made anonymous monetary donations and the elementary students of the Wading River School, who with their parents, joined the effort. “Charity is an important lesson for every one of us.” Finally, thanks must go to First Student bus company for donating the bus, for the past month.
