Working Commercial Structure Fire

On Thursday October 29, 2020 at approximately 2024hrs the Department responded to North Country Rd. Wading River for a report of an active fire in a large commercial building.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions. Firefighters attempted to fight the fire from the inside but were withdrawn from the structure due to the deteriorating fire conditions. The wind driven fire caused blinding smoke and caused the evacuation of several neighboring residences. Two tower ladders, ladder pipe and numerous hand lines were used to extinguish the stubborn fire.
At the height of the incident numerous mutual aid Fire and EMS agencies were brought in to assist the operation.
At the completion of the assignment the scene was turned over to the Riverhead Town Fire Marshals Office and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.
All units were back in service at 0842hrs.
